Extracellular Matrix Behaviour in Masseter Muscle of Patients Affected by Unilateral Posterior Crossbite: An Immunofluorescence Study

نویسندگان

چکیده

Unilateral posterior crossbite is a malocclusion disease that involves morpho-functional characteristics of masseter muscle; normal or increased activity contralateral muscle and reduced the ipsilateral during unilateral have been shown. Since extracellular matrix plays key role in mechano-transduction transmitting forces contraction, aim present study was to analyse behaviour this type through immunofluorescence reactions against laminin, collagen IV, MMP-2 MMP-9. Our results show an expression Laminin, Collagen MMP-9 side if compared side. No differences found between muscles. IV associated with hypertrophy atrophy, our support existence hypertrophic response probably aims compensate altered function one.

Morphofunctional Compensation of Masseter Muscles in Unilateral Posterior Crossbite Patients

Unilateral posterior crossbite is a widespread, asymmetric malocclusion characterized by an inverse relationship of the upper and lower buccal dental cusps, in the molar and premolar regions, on one side only of the dental arch. Patients with unilateral posterior crossbite exhibit an altered chewing cycles and the crossbite side masseter results to be less active with respect to the contralater...

Ultrasonographic thickness of the masseter muscle in growing individuals with unilateral crossbite.

OBJECTIVE To study the bilateral differences in the thickness of the masseter muscles in untreated individuals with lateral crossbite, as well as in subjects with successfully treated functional lateral crossbite, at least three years after the end of treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three groups of growing individuals were studied: (1) untreated group: 38 individuals with unilateral crossbit...

The Electrical Activity of the Temporal and Masseter Muscles in Patients with TMD and Unilateral Posterior Crossbite

The aim of this study was to assess the influence of unilateral posterior crossbite on the electrical activity of the temporal and masseter muscles in patients with subjective symptoms of temporomandibular dysfunctions (TMD). The sample consisted of 50 patients (22 female and 28 male) aged 18.4 to 26.3 years (mean 20.84, SD 1.14) with subjective symptoms of TMD and unilateral posterior crossbit...

Kinesiographic study of the mandible in young patients with unilateral posterior crossbite.

It is generally assumed that children with posterior crossbites have abnormal mandibular movements; however, this assumption has not been clearly evaluated. The purpose of this investigation was to study the movements and the resting position of the mandible in 2 samples of 30 subjects, one aged 10 to 14 years with right posterior crossbite, the other aged 10 to 15 years with normal occlusion. ...

Evaluation of mandibular condyles in children with unilateral posterior crossbite.

The relationship of mandibular condyle dimensions and its association with unilateral posterior crossbite (UPXB) has been suggested in the literature. The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate mandibular condyles on the left and right sides and between crossed and non-crossed sides in the sagittal and coronal planes, using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Twenty CBCT images of ...
